Words That Build
Word of the Week will be togetherness! Announcements this week will support students in understanding and sharing this message.
Gently Used Running Shoes
Do you have gently used child size running shoes at home that are no longer being worn? Please consider donating them to Gatestone School. We are looking to have shoes on hand that students may wear for gym class if they have forgotten their gym shoes. Shoes can be dropped off to Mrs. Taylor in the gym. Thanks to all those who have donated shoes already.
Website Update
HWDSB has updated all websites. Our new school website is gatestone.hwdsb.on.ca. The school board’s main website is hwdsb.on.ca.
Kindergarten Registration for September 2026!
Now is the time to register all children born in 2022 for Kindergarten for September. Please follow the link below for all information regarding registration.
Commencement
Our Grade 8 Commencement is Thursday, June 18 at 5:00pm. Our rehearsal will be Wednesday, June 17 at noon. The decoration committee is looking for volunteers who can support in setting up the gym on Wednesday between 1:30pm and 5:00pm and Thursday starting at 8:00am. If you are available for any amount of time to assist, please contact [email protected]
Parking Lot
A reminder that, for student safety, our school parking lot is closed during entry and dismissal times. We encourage families to walk with their children to and from school, set up a buddy system for older students, or Drive to Five - rather than drive to the school to limit congestion on Gatestone Drive and improve safety for students traveling to and from school.
At times when parents/caregivers need to drop their child off by vehicle, please park on the streets adjacent to the school (where it is unsigned).
Please be sure to respect our neighbours by not blocking driveways. Also, a reminder that by-law does regular parking enforcement on the street in front of the school. Do not park in no parking areas. Please do not block the fire lane.
Bike to School Week
Did you know there are many ways you can help make cycling to school safer and
easier? Cycling is healthy and fun, but kids need the right skill, gear, and support to
stay safe and enjoy it. Be sure to plan your route before heading out.
• All cyclists should wear a helmet, but the law in Ontario states that riders
under 18 must wear a helmet
• Cyclists under age 16 can ride on the sidewalks
• Wear bright coloured clothing
• Lock your bike frame and front wheel to a bike rack or post
Bike to School Week is coming (June 1-June 4)! Students are encouraged to get their friends together and ride your bikes to school as much as possible this week. If they cannot ride their bike, they can try walking or another active way to get to school!
E-Bikes/E-Scooters
A safety reminder to all families that under Ontario law, riders on E-Bikes must be 16 years of age or older and must wear a helmet at all times. Similarly, under Ontario’s E-Scooter pilot program, E-Scooter riders must be at least 16 years old and riders under 18 must wear a helmet. Municipalities determine where e-scooters are permitted, and in Hamilton their use is restricted by local by laws.
Early Pick-Ups
We understand that sometimes end of day arrangement for students need to change in cases of emergency. The end of day can be quite busy for classes packing up and accessing different areas of the school so it is not always possible to get messages to students after 3:00pm. For student safety, if end of day arrangements for your child need to change, please call the school office before 3:00pm.
